PAPER -or- POTTERY -not- PLASTIC
Group Show of 100 Plates – paper and ceramic
November 21 – January 9
Reception: Saturday, November 21, 4 to 6:00 p.m.
This year, in addition to the small scale and affordable artwork this show focuses on, artists were invited to produce plates for PAPER -or- POTTERY -not- PLASTIC, a “show within a show ” featuring 100 plates, both paper and ceramic. Night of 100 Plates, a benefit dinner for St. Stephens Table in Pittsfield will take place in the gallery immediately following the opening reception. Sculptor Joseph Wheaton, one of the artists in the show and an experienced chef noted for his Thai feasts, is creating a special Thai menu for the evening. Wheaton has been cooking at St. Stephen’s table for over 23 years.
The PAPER -or- POTTERY -not- PLASTIC invitation to participate was open to both gallery artists in Small Works and artists throughout the country. Artists that chose to work with paper were asked to produce an artwork on a Chinet paper dinner plate. Area potters and ceramicists will be providing functional dinner and serving plates. The submitted plates range in technique. Some artists worked in styles they are known for; others have been more experimental with the format. The sale of the plates will begin at 4:00 the night of the opening. Each paper plate will sell for $100.
