The Mentor program “gives students the opportunity to work in an almost one-on-one environment with professional artists to produce original art pieces in a medium of their choice.” Last Friday, the community came out to celebrate the art produced by the six participating students, the 3 mentors and SAP’s newly appointed Director, Michelle Green.

Green (pictured below with local legend John Stritch) took over the reigns from exiting Director, Peter Dudek who had held the post since 2006, when he superseded SAP founder Maggie Mailer (pictured to the left with her wee one).
Mailer says of Dudek who, along with other endeavors, has been teaching sculpture at the School of Visual Arts and Hunter College in New York City for the past 20 years : “Peter supplied the Storefront Artist Project with a regular dose of brilliance, wry good humor, and patience…he seamlessly merged community-based work, such as the high school mentorship program, with a keen focus on contemporary art.”
Green, who recently graduated with her Master’s in business administration (MBA) from the University of Massachusetts’ Isenberg
School of Management, brings a different skill set to the eight year old organization, which has been thus far artist run. Green, on the other hand, is experienced at running artists with previous positions as the Senior Editor for Projects at The Berkshire Eagle where she managed special sections and as the Presentations Editor for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, based out of Stuart, Fla., where she managed the designers, artists and photojournalists and led the visual staff through an organizational merger.
