RANGE SALON @ Storefront Artist Project

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

The conversation continues between Pittsfield and Northampton residents/artists/fans of the arts.  We met within the gallery at the Storefront Artist Project with Northampton artists’ art on the walls.  The discussion included future steps for the RANGE exchange.  There was comparison of the 2 cities’ art scenes, as well as the comparisons of where each scene has been and what state it is at now.

There was much interest in doing another city swap, with Pittsfield artists to hang their art in Northampton come spring.

On Saturday, September 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Storefront Artist Project will open RANGE, a group exhibition featuring Northampton-based emerging artists.  Organized in conjunction with the A.P.E. at Window gallery, this “artists’ exchange” calls across the geographic divide between Pittsfield and Northampton – cultivating a new communication for each of the towns’ emerging art communities – to extend the physical area where their work is seen.

Curated by ELIZABETH STONE the artists are:
KATHY COUCH,    JULIA HANDSCHUH,   MAT MATERA, TEDDY O’CONNOR,   ALI OSBORN, LILLIANNA PEREIRA, and ANGELA ZAMARELLI
Also, be there on Saturday, September 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., for an Artist Salon at the Storefront which will include a dialog with the artists. This event will be broadcast LIVE in several private Northampton residences; then, reproduced on VHS and made downloadable via the iTunes music store.
RANGE [which runs from September 5 to the 27th] and all of its related events are free and fully accessible to the public.
The Storefront Artist Project is open Saturday and Sunday, from 12 to 5 p.m.
